Join the LCA Archery Club for their first meeting of the 2017-2018 school year! Here is the information from Heath Taylor, LCA Archery Club Coordinator:
Meeting Location:
- Archery Club will meet at Wyandotte County Lake Park Archery Range this year.
Meeting Dates:
- The Fall meeting will be on November 3rd, 2017 at 5:30pm.
- The time spent at the range will be about one hour or so.
Equipment:
- Either a compound or recurve bow is fine. (The below links are for reference only, it’s up to you on what to get for your child).
- Compound bow example found here: http://www.cabelas.com/product/BARNETT-TOMCAT-COMPOUND-BOW/2496253.uts?slotId=0
- Recurve bow example found here: http://www.cabelas.com/product/FRED-BEAR-FLASH-YOUTH-RECURVE/2069473.uts?slotId=9
- No need for a release with a recurve.
- Other things to consider:
- If this is the first time your child has shot, go with the most basic / cheapest option you can, as you won’t know if they actually like it.
- In any case, if you buy your child a compound bow, please make sure to have the facility you purchase it from set it up to fit them. If you don’t their experience will likely be less than stellar. Also, with a compound bow you will need to make sure they have sights and that those are set up too. The facility you purchase the equipment at can get the entire rig set up for you, usually at little to no cost since you purchased the equipment there.
- Don’t forget to get arrows (carbon or aluminum is fine) and field tips.
- Last but not least, please limit the age to no younger than a “mature” first grader.
